About Movie:

Schindler’s List is a 1993 American epic historical drama directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, based on Thomas Keneally’s 1982 novel Schindler’s Ark. It stars Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes, Caroline Goodall, Jonathan Sagall, and Embeth Davidtz.

The idea for the film originated in 1963, when Poldek Pfefferberg, one of the Schindlerjuden, sought to share Schindler’s story with the world. Spielberg became intrigued after receiving a review of Schindler’s Ark from Sidney Sheinberg. Although Universal Pictures secured the rights, Spielberg initially hesitated to direct, attempting to hand the project to other filmmakers before ultimately deciding to helm it himself.

Filmed over 72 days in Kraków, Poland, Spielberg chose to shoot in black-and-white, giving the film a documentary-like aesthetic. Cinematographer Janusz Kamiński aimed to evoke a timeless feel, while John Williams composed the score, featuring violinist Itzhak Perlman performing the haunting main theme.

Premiering on November 30, 1993, and released widely on December 15, Schindler’s List garnered universal acclaim for its direction, performances, score, and cinematography. It became a box-office success, grossing $322.2 million globally on a $22 million budget.

The film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and numerous other accolades such as seven BAFTAs and three Golden Globes. Ranked among the greatest films ever made, Schindler’s List was added to the U.S. National Film Registry in 2004 for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.
