The Conjuring: Last Rites is an American supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren. The film is directed by Michael Chaves, who is notoriously known for directing horror films The Curse of La Llorona (2019), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), and The Nun II (2023).
It serves as the sequel to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and is the ninth and final installment in the main series of The Conjuring Universe. James Wan and Peter Safran return as producers.
Before the release of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It in June 2021, Chaves hinted at the possibility of continuing the series, expressing interest in exploring new chapters for the Warrens. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga were also open to returning, with Farmiga expressing enthusiasm for upping the fear factor in each installment. In October 2022, it was revealed that a fourth Conjuring film was in development, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing the screenplay.
Ahead of The Nun II release in September 2023, Chaves described the new project as a finale to the franchise. By February 2024, Chaves was negotiating to direct, and by September, Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson were added to the cast.
Filming for The Conjuring: Last Rites took place in London from September 10 to October 10, 2024, starting by September 17 and wrapping up on November 22, 2024.
