Storyline:

A lay preacher who arrives at a British settlement in the 1830s. His violent past is soon drawn into question and his faith put to the test, as he finds himself caught in the middle of a bloody war between Maori tribes.

The Convert is an action drama film directed by Lee Tamahori, and produced by Robin Scholes, Te Kohe Tuhaka, Andrew Mason, and Troy Lum. The film stars Guy Pearce, Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne, Antonio Te Maioha, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Lawrence Makoare.

Principal photography for the film began in September 2022 in North Island and ended in November of that year. Filming locations included West Auckland beaches, Studio West, and other locations around the Auckland and Northland regions.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2023. It was released in New Zealand cinemas on March 14, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 12, 2024.
