About The Fire Inside Movie:
The Fire Inside is an American biographical sports film directed by Rachel Morrison, marking her feature debut. The film is inspired by the 2015 documentary T-Rex, which follows American professional boxer Claressa T-Rex Shields as she trains for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Ryan Destiny stars as Claressa, with supporting roles from Judy Greer and Brian Tyree Henry.
The project began development in October 2016, with Barry Jenkins adapting the documentary for Universal Pictures under the title Flint Strong. Morrison was brought on as director in June 2019, with producers including Jenkins, Michael De Luca, Elishia Holmes, Zackary Canepari, and Drea Cooper. Ryan Destiny joined the cast in November 2019, with Ice Cube and Greer added in early 2020.
Filming started in Toronto in March 2020 but was halted just two days later due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there were plans to resume in June 2021, Ice Cube exited the project in October, leading Universal to put the film in turnaround. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picked up the project in May 2022, bringing on Henry and Oluniké Adeliyi, with filming resuming that month.
First look images from the film were released by People on July 26, 2024, coinciding with the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Fire Inside premiered in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 25, 2024, by Amazon MGM Studios through their Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer label.
