Storyline:
Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to rob a corrupt politician’s ill-gained earnings. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist (Hong Chau) to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.—Apple TV

The Instigators is an American heist thriller film directed by Doug Liman, written by Chuck Maclean and Casey Affleck, and starring Affleck and Matt Damon, who also produces the film alongside Ben Affleck under their production company Artists Equity for distribution by Apple TV+ under Apple Original Films.
It was announced in December 2022 that Apple TV+ had acquired the rights to the project.
In February 2023, Hong Chau joined the cast, with Paul Walter Hauser, Michael Stuhlbarg, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Ron Perlman joining the following month. Jack Harlow was added to the cast in April.
Filming began in Boston in March 2023. Locations include Bova’s Bakery. They also shot some scenes on Long Island, including at the Nassau County Correctional Center and in Long Beach.
The Instigators was a limited theatrical release in the United States on August 2, 2024, before its streaming debut by Apple TV+ on August 9, 2024.
