About Movie:
The Lego Batman Movie is an animated superhero comedy film produced by Warner Animation Group and DC Entertainment, among others. Directed by Chris McKay in his feature directorial debut, the film features a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith, Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Jared Stern, and John Whittington. It is based on characters from the DC Universe and the Lego DC Super Heroes toy line, making it the first spin-off of The Lego Movie franchise.
The film stars Will Arnett reprising his role as Batman, alongside a voice cast that includes Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred. The plot revolves around Batman’s struggle to confront his greatest fear while thwarting the Joker’s latest plan to take over Gotham City.
Development for The Lego Batman Movie began in October 2014 after the success of The Lego Movie. Chris McKay was brought on board to direct following a change in direction for the sequel to The Lego Movie. The film pays homage to various Batman films and comic book lore while incorporating humor and references that appeal to both children and adults. The animation was handled by Animal Logic, with Lorne Balfe composing the musical score.
The movie premiered in Dublin on January 29, 2017, and was released in the United States on February 10, 2017. It received generally positive reviews from critics who praised its animation, humor, and voice performances. Financially, it grossed approximately $312 million worldwide against a budget of around $80 million. Although it performed well, it fell short of expectations compared to its predecessor.
A sequel titled Lego Superfriends was announced in 2018 but was later canceled after Universal Pictures acquired the rights to produce future Lego films. Despite this setback, The Lego Batman Movie remains a beloved entry in the Lego franchise, celebrated for its clever writing and engaging character dynamics.
