The LEGO Movie is a 3D animated film that follows the lead character, Emmet, a completely ordinary LEGO mini-figure who is identified as the most “extraordinary person” and the key to saving the Lego universe. Emmet and his friends go on an epic journey to stop the evil tyrant, Lord Business.

About Movie:

The Lego Movie is an animated adventure comedy film co-produced by various studios, including Warner Animation Group and Village Roadshow Pictures. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film is based on the popular Lego line of construction toys and features a voice cast that includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, and Morgan Freeman. The story follows Emmet Brickowski (voiced by Pratt), an ordinary Lego minifigure who becomes embroiled in a quest to stop a tyrannical businessman (Ferrell) from enforcing his vision of perfection on the Lego universe.

The concept for The Lego Movie originated in 2008, with producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee discussing the idea before Lin established his own production company. By 2009, writers Dan and Kevin Hageman began developing the script, which was officially green-lit by Warner Bros. in 2011. The film’s animation aimed to replicate the look of stop-motion films, although it was created using computer graphics that adhered to the articulation limits of actual Lego figures.

The Lego Movie premiered in Los Angeles on February 1, 2014, and was released in theaters in the United States on February 7. The film became a critical and commercial success, grossing approximately $470.7 million worldwide against a budget of $60–65 million. It was praised for its humor, animation style, and engaging story, earning a nomination for Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards.

Following its success, The Lego Movie launched a franchise that includes two spin-offs (The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie, both released in 2017) and a direct sequel titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which came out in 2019. However, the latter faced challenges at the box office, leading to Warner Bros. relinquishing the rights to produce future Lego films to Universal Pictures.

As of now, Universal is developing The Lego Movie 3, which will be a live-action/animation hybrid featuring characters from various Universal franchises. This film aims to reinvigorate the franchise after several years of inactivity following the mixed performance of its predecessors.
