About Movie:
The Life of Chuck is an American science fiction drama film written and directed by Mike Flanagan, based on Stephen King’s novella from the 2020 collection If It Bleeds. The film stars Tom Hiddleston in the title role, alongside Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay.
Initially optioned by Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures in July 2020, the project was later taken over by Flanagan in May 2023, with Hiddleston and Hamill attached to star. Flanagan, known for adapting King’s Gerald’s Game (2017) and Doctor Sleep (2019), aimed to create a film similar in tone to classic King adaptations like Stand by Me (1986), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and The Green Mile (1999).
Filming commenced in Alabama in October 2023, during the SAG-AFTRA strike, under an interim agreement with the union. Alongside Hiddleston and Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay joined the cast. Flanagan, who frequently edits his own work, wrapped filming on November 16, 2023, and was later confirmed as the film’s editor in December 2023. In April 2024, The Newton Brothers, frequent collaborators of Flanagan, were announced as composers for the film.
The Life of Chuck had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024. Later that month, Neon acquired the North American distribution rights, with a planned summer 2025 theatrical release.
