About The Medium Movie:

The Medium is a Thai-South Korean supernatural horror film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and starring Narilya Gulmongkolpech, Sawanee Utoomma, Sirani Yankittikan and Yasaka Chaisorn. It is a co-production of Thailand’s GDH 559 and South Korea’s Showbox.

The film was shot in the Loei province in northeast Northeast Thailand or Isan. It is the first and only South Korean film that is completely Thai-spoken.

According to actress Narilya Gulmongkolpech, some parts of the movie are based on true stories. Gulmongkolpech, who believes in spirits, was reportedly scared of some of the filming locations. However, she found the production enjoyable, stating, “It was a really fun production with the crew and the actors, so it wasn’t stressful or something that I worried about.”

The Medium premiered at the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival on July 11, 2021. The film was theatrically released in South Korea on July 14, 2021. The film received positive reviews from critics. It was selected as the Thai entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards but was not nominated.

The film was judged the best feature film at the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and received the Bucheon Choice Award for Best Film. According to the Korean Film Council, it ranked 15th among all films released in South Korea in 2021, grossing $7.35 million with 831,126 admissions as of September 26, 2021. It is the 6th highest-grossing Korean film of 2021.

The Medium was made available for streaming and broadcasting in South Korea on IPTV, Skylife, HomeChoice cable TV, KT Seezn, and others from September 16, 2021.
