Storyline:

It is based on the true story of Aisha Chaudhary, who suffered from severe combined immunodeficiency and pulmonary fibrosis, and tells the story of her parents Aditi and Niren as they navigate their marriage while dealing with their daughter’s illness.

About The Sky is Pink Movie:

The Sky Is Pink is a biographical drama film written and directed by Shonali Bose and starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim, and Rohit Suresh Saraf. The film is based on the life of Aisha Chaudhry who passed away due to Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The film was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ronnie Screwvala, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas under their production companies Roy Kapur Films, RSVP Movies, and Purple Pebble Pictures, respectively, in association with Ivanhoe Pictures.

The production of the film began when Aisha Chaudhary’s mother Aditi Chaudhary approached Shonali Bose to make a film about her daughter, who had seen the trailer of Bose’s film Margarita with a Straw (2015) thirty times and was eager to watch the film, saying, “I hope I live to see this film”.

Director Shonali Bose lost her 16-year-old boy in an accident. She worked closely with the Chaudhary family trying to incorporate how she braved her own grief due to the loss of a child and theirs. The idea of celebrating death days apparently pops out from her own experience of celebrating the death day of her own son.

Shonali Bose’s first choice for the lead role was Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who she had in mind while writing the script. It took six months for Bose to contact Chopra Jonas, whose manager did not give her the script to read.

Abhishek Bachchan was the first choice of director Shonali Bose to play the role of Niren Chaudhary. His wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan forbade him from working with Priyanka Chopra again.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas confirmed her involvement in the film on July 9, 2018, by posting a picture of the script of The Sky Is Pink on her Instagram account, revealing the film’s title. The official announcement followed the next day, confirming the casting of Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim in the film. The film marked the last film of Zaira Wasim’s career before she retired from Bollywood.

The film marks the second collaboration of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Farhan Akhtar after Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).

Principal photography of the film began on August 8, 2018, in Mumbai with all its cast members. The second schedule of filming began on October 13, 2018, in London and lasted six days, concluding on October 19, 2018. Filming then moved to Delhi as part of the second schedule on November 12, 2018. The filming was done over ten month.

The Sky Is Pink premiered at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2019, and was released worldwide on October 11 the same year. The film received positive reviews, with praise for Bose’s writing and direction, and the performances of the cast.

At the 65th Filmfare Awards, The Sky Is Pink received three nominations: Best Film (Critics), Best Actress for Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Best Supporting Actress for Zaira Wasim. The film is now available on Netflix.

The film did not perform well commercially, grossing ₹34.41 crore at the box office against a budget of ₹24 crore.
