About Movie:
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is based on the television series SpongeBob SquarePants, created by Stephen Hillenburg. It is the fourth theatrical film based on the series, following the first in 2004 (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie), the second in 2015 (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water), and the third in 2020 (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run).
In February 2022, a fourth SpongeBob film was officially confirmed to be in development. At Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon panel in April 2023, the film’s title was revealed as The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, with series veteran Derek Drymon announced as the director.
In April 2024, it was confirmed that the show’s core voice cast—Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence—would reprise their roles. Pam Brady and Lisa Stewart were announced as producers. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Mark Hamill revealed he would voice the Flying Dutchman, replacing Brian Doyle-Murray from the series.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 19, 2025, by Paramount Pictures. Initially set for May 23, 2025, its release was postponed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning taking its original date.
