The Survivors is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Jane Harper, first published on September 22, 2020. Harper is an internationally acclaimed crime fiction author with books like The Dry, Force of Nature, and The Lost Man. She has won numerous prestigious awards such as the Australian Book Industry Awards Book of the Year, the Australian Indie Awards Book of the Year, the CWA Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel, and the British Book Awards Crime and Thriller Book of the Year.
The show explores what happens to friends and family when they’re forced to deal with the kind of traumatic events that have a habit of revisiting again and again.
The Survivors was announced by Netflix on 21 August 2023, alongside 3 other Australian television projects. On 19 December 2023, principal photography of the series began in Tasmania, Australia.
