About Transformers: The Last Knight Movie:
Transformers: The Last Knight is an American science fiction action film directed by Michael Bay and screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Ken Nolan. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, and Anthony Hopkins.
Based on Hasbro’s Transformers toy line, the film is the fifth installment in the Transformers film series and the sequel to Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014).
On May 17, 2016, Michael Bay revealed the official title of the film to be Transformers: The Last Knight on his Instagram account, where he also posted a production video showing a close-up of Optimus Prime’s face with purple eyes instead of blue, and his face mostly discolored.
Principal photography for the film began on May 25, 2016, in Havana, Cuba, with a few scenes shot by a “small team”. Filming continued on June 6, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona, and on June 19, 2016, in Detroit, Michigan, under the working title E75, with additional filming taking place in Chicago, Illinois. Principal photography wrapped on December 4, 2016.
Transformers: The Last Knight premiered on June 18, 2017, at the Odeon Leicester Square in London and was released in the United States on June 21.
It was a box-office bomb, grossing $605 million worldwide against a production budget between $217–260 million, with an estimated loss of over $100 million for both Paramount and Hasbro after marketing and distribution costs.
A spin-off prequel titled Bumblebee was released on December 21, 2018, to critical and financial success, with Bay as a producer.
After Transformers: Age of Extinction, director Michael Bay had decided not to direct any future Transformers films. But in early January 2016, in an interview with Rolling Stone, he stated that he would return to direct the fifth film, and that it would be his last Transformers film
This was the first movie to be filmed almost entirely with IMAX 3-D cameras with two ARRI Alexa IMAX cameras mounted onto a 3-D rig with an astounding ninety-eight percent of IMAX footage in this movie.
This movie was released ten years after Transformers (2007). This is also the most expensive movie in the franchise, but the lowest-grossing film of them all.
The film received generally negative reviews for its runtime and screenplay.
Steve Buscemi voiced Daytrader in this movie. Michael Bay had wanted Steve Buscemi to play Agent Simmons in Transformers (2007), but he was unavailable.
While shooting in England, Mark Wahlberg spent time at St. Aidan’s Church incognito, and made donations. No one knew anything until afterward. Reverend Father Des McGiven said, “It’s great that we had him in for the service, and we appreciate his generosity towards our church.”
This is the second Hollywood movie to be shot in Cuba after The Fate of the Furious (2017). Many of the scenes were filmed in the northeast of England, with several streets in Newcastle upon Tyne brought to a standstill, while scenes were completed.
This is the second Michael Bay movie to have a World War II setting, after Pearl Harbor (2001).
There are 32 new robot characters in the film
