Storyline:
Juhan Liiv, a financially struggling poet and an unlikely detective, solves gruesome murder cases in Estonia, the westernmost province of the Russian Empire in the 1890s. Investigations take him to the miserable dwellings of the local Estonian peasants, the luxurious castles of the Baltic German nobility now reluctantly serving the Russian Emperor, and to low-life dens in emerging urban jungles. Juhan is fighting crime and his own inner demons. His early stage of schizophrenia makes him suspicious of everyone and everything. In this semi-feudalistic world, he soon discovers that truth doesn’t always lead to justice, but perhaps his undying need for truth makes him the sanest of them all.
