Storyline:
Set in the backdrop of 13th-century North Malabar, Veeram follows Chandu Chekavar, a legendary warrior known for his valor and martial prowess. The narrative explores themes of ambition, betrayal, and revenge, paralleling the tragic elements of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Chandu’s journey is marked by his struggles against adversaries and his quest for honor, ultimately leading to a dramatic confrontation that tests his character and resolve.
About Movie:
Veeram is a historical drama film directed by Jayaraj. It is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and serves as the fifth installment in Jayaraj’s Navarasa series. The film draws inspiration from the Vadakkan Pattukal (Northern Ballads) of the North Malabar region in Kerala and tells the story of Chandu Chekavar (played by Kunal Kapoor), an infamous warrior from the 13th century.
Veeram premiered at the BRICS Film Festival on September 2, 2016, in New Delhi and was released theatrically on February 24, 2017.
