Storyline:

Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

About Wonka Movie:

  • It was originally set for release on 17 March 2023.
  • The film serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and its original 1971 film adaptation Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
  • Development began after Warner Bros. Pictures acquired the rights to the titular character in October 2016.
  • The film stars Timothée Chalamet in the title role of Willy Wonka, featuring his early days as an eccentric chocolatier.
  • Principal photography for the film began in the United Kingdom in September 2021. Filming took place in Lyme Regis and Bath, as well as at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in Watford.
  • Filming also occurred at the Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley, London. Scenes were shot in Oxford in December and February. The original songs for the film were contributed by Neil Hannon.
  • In December, McGarvey exited as cinematographer with Chung Chung-hoon replacing him.
  • Timothée Chalamet got sick multiple times during production due to how much chocolate and candy he had to eat.
  • Tom Holland and Timothée Chalamet were the two finalists for the role of Willy Wonka, with Chalamet ultimately winning the role.

  • Wonka had its world premiere in London at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, on November 28, 2023, and was released in the United Kingdom on December 8 and later in the United States on December 15, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
  • The film received positive reviews from critics and was nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Chalamet.
  • In the United States and Canada, Wonka is projected to gross around $40 million from 4,150 theaters in its opening weekend.
