Storyline:

Following a faint trail of clues, Doctor Elizabeth Shaw, an accomplished archaeologist, and her partner, Charlie Holloway, embark on an ambitious deep-space scientific expedition in 2093. Their task is to explore the desolate exomoon LV-223 aboard the USCSS Prometheus and shed light on the existence of a superior extraterrestrial species known as the Engineers. Instead, more enigmas await the crew as they venture into a mysterious structure on the moon’s rocky terrain. And soon, their terrifying discoveries threaten not only their mission but also the future of humankind. After all, the world may not be ready for the answers to the fundamental questions of human existence.

Prometheus is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. The ensemble cast features Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron.

Originally conceived as a prequel to Scott’s 1979 film Alien, the project took shape after Alien vs. Predator (2004) delayed development. Scott later revived the concept in 2009, with Spaihts writing an initial script. However, Scott wanted to steer the film in a new direction, leading to Lindelof’s rewrite. The result was a film set in the Alien universe, but exploring new mythology and ideas. Scott described it as having “strands of Alien’s DNA,” though it is not directly tied to the original series.

Production began in 2010, with a budget of $120–130 million. Filmed in 3D with practical sets and locations across England, Iceland, Scotland, Jordan, and Spain, Prometheus was accompanied by a viral marketing campaign that included in-character videos expanding on the film’s universe. The campaign received a positive reception.

Released in June 8, 2012, Prometheus garnered praise for its production design, visuals, and performances, though the script’s inconsistencies and unresolved plot points were criticized. The film grossed over $403 million worldwide and was followed by a sequel, Alien: Covenant, in 2017.
