Storyline:

In the dark world of intelligence and espionage… all information is guarded in the name of national security… But some stories escape the fiercely guarded classified files… stories that become legends.

This is one such story… a story that shook the very foundation of this dark world.

In a government employees’ neighbourhood in New Delhi, there lived a rugged, handsome and mysterious bachelor about whom his neighbours knew nothing. That was because he was India’s top spy, an officer with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s external intelligence agency. This man was known even in official corridors as TIGER (Salman Khan).

Tiger is sent on a relatively easy and safe mission to Dublin, Ireland to observe a scientist of Indian origin who is suspected of sharing his research findings with the Pakistan defence establishment. Tiger attempts to meet the scientist but is not successful. He tries to befriend the scientist’s part time home caretaker, Zoya (Katrina Kaif). As Tiger begins to get closer to Zoya… he begins to discover his human side.

For the first time in his life Tiger falls in love…

What follows is a tumultuous journey that Tiger and Zoya embark upon, battling the dark world of intelligence and espionage that forbids its soldiers from falling in love…

About Ek Tha Tiger Movie:

Ek Tha Tiger is the first installment in the Tiger franchise and the first film in the YRF Spy Universe.

Ek Tha Tiger marks the third collaboration between Kabir Khan and Yash Raj Films, after he directed Kabul Express (2006) and New York (2009), and the first collaboration between Yash Raj Films and Salman Khan. The last film to be presented by founder and filmmaker Yash Chopra, it had a complicated production process, with delays, rewrites, and several cast members attached at various points.

Principal photography began in August 2011 and lasted until July 2012, with filming locations including Dublin, Havana, Bangkok, Istanbul, and Delhi.

Ek Tha Tiger was theatrically released worldwide by Yash Raj on 15 August 2012. The film received mixed-to-positive reviews, with praise for its action sequences, music, and performances of its leads, while there was some criticism for its tone, which was labelled inconsistent.

Ek Tha Tiger set numerous box-office records in its theatrical run, grossing ₹334.39 crore (US$62.58 million) worldwide. It was the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2012, is the 36th highest-grossing Indian film of all time, unadjusted for inflation, and set the then-record for the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend, with ₹57.9 crore (US$10.84 million).

The film won Best Special Effects at the 14th IIFA Awards and won five People’s Choice Awards, including Best Film, Best Actor for Khan, and Best Actress for Kaif.

A sequel, Tiger Zinda Hai, was released on 22 December 2017. A third film, Tiger 3, was announced in June 2018. Salman later reprised his role in a cameo in the 2023 film Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and directed by Siddharth Anand, which serves as the fourth installment of a planned spy universe, making Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai also the first two films in the universe, with the third being War (2019), also directed by Anand.
