Storyline:

A powerful account of the Kolbari covert goods trade between the Kurdish cities and towns of Iran and the borders of Iraq.

The film follows Hamid and Yasser over six years as they contend with the life-threatening conditions they and their families have to face to survive.

A rare insight into the plight of the Kurdish people, this is an elegant portrait of marginalized people, where the palpable sense of risk and danger is contrasted with the gentle rhythms of family life under harsh conditions.

About All the Mountains Give Movie:

Experience the world premiere of Arash Rakhsha’s film at the 77th Edinburgh International Film Festival (15-21 August 2024), where the director will be present.

The film directed by Arash Rakhsha follows two kolbars, Hamid and Yasser, who risk their lives to trade across the mountainous borders of Iraq, Iran, and Turkey.

The 91-minute film is one of ten world premieres competing for The Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

In Kurdish, ‘kolbar’ means “the one who carries a load.” The term refers to individuals engaged in the dangerous cross-border trade across the mountains of Turkey, Iran, and Iraq, where they face dangers such as landmines, armed drones, and shootings by border guards.
