Storyline:
With their official honeymoon to Paris postponed by a week due to bad weather at the destination, Ro and Nick take Lizzie up on her offer for what they are calling a “pre-honeymoon” at Lizzie’s deceased Aunt Gladys’ cabin – devoid of all the latest electronic device conveniences, including no WiFi and spotty cell service – at nearby Ridge Bay, it not their official honeymoon as non-fisher Ro doesn’t want what will be a fishing vacation to be categorized as their special post-nuptials getaway. While the cabin ends up being more than they expected despite those lack of electronic device conveniences, they, while agreeing not to make it a fishing getaway, discover a dead body in the bay while out boating. They will soon discover the dead body is that of Cliff Minton, whose boss and friend, Russ Slocum, who owns and operates his own home security systems company in Lawrenceton, was just advised by Aida, who is doing some unfortunate work with the company related to misinformation attributed to Cliff, to report him as being missing in he not having come into work for a week, and that he had been shot in the back, the cause of death. While they will further learn that salesman Cliff was well-liked by those who knew him casually in being the consummate salesman, he was also disliked by many when they dug below the surface, one such person being his estranged ex-wife, Terry Hall, who happens to live in the house next door to Aunt Gladys’ cabin, and who, along with her Lawrenceton University freshman son Jacob Hall, an offspring from Terry’s first marriage pre-Cliff, makes no pretenses of grief about Cliff’s death in Cliff having made their lives a hell. Also openly not a fan of Cliff’s is seemingly perpetually angry Donald Heller, owner/operator of the Ridge Bay fish/tackle shop and boat rental. While Lynn and now promoted Sgt. Heard lead the murder investigation, Ro and Nick can’t help but insert themselves into the investigation in their proximity to many of the major players at Ridge Bay, that investigation which largely needs to be done the old fashioned way on foot with the lack of electronic device access.
