Yash’s father, Arun Kumar Gowda, was a driver for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and later the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. His mother, Pushpa, is a homemaker. Despite initial disapproval, Yash pursued acting from a young age, actively participating in theatre and dance competitions. He joined a theatre group, the Benaka Drama Troupe, which was formed by dramatist B. V. Karanth. He worked as a backstage worker and was paid ₹50 (63¢ US) per day. Overcoming challenges, including financial constraints, Yash eventually became a prominent actor in Kannada cinema.

Despite initial disapproval from his parents regarding his acting ambitions, he pursued his passion while completing his education.
