This version of Dracula is loosely based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Young barrister Jonathan Harker is assigned to a gloomy village in the mists of eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker’s betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina’s closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy’s friends gather together to try to drive Dracula away.

About Movie:

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a 1992 American gothic horror film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola and written by James V. Hart, based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula.

The film stars Gary Oldman as Count Dracula, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves, with supporting roles by Richard E. Grant, Cary Elwes, Billy Campbell, Sadie Frost, and Tom Waits. The closing credits feature the song “Love Song for a Vampire,” performed by Annie Lennox.

After facing delays and budget issues on previous projects like Apocalypse Now and One from the Heart, Coppola was determined to keep Dracula on time and within budget. He shot most of the film on sound stages to avoid weather-related complications.

Released on November 13, 1992, Bram Stoker’s Dracula received positive reviews, particularly for Coppola’s direction, the film’s production values, and Oldman’s portrayal of Dracula. However, Keanu Reeves’ performance was widely criticized.

Despite this, the film was a box office success, grossing $215.9 million worldwide against a $40 million budget. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning three: Best Costume Design (Eiko Ishioka), Best Sound Editing, and Best Makeup. It was also nominated for Best Art Direction.
