When the Other Mother invites Coraline to stay in her world forever, the girl refuses and finds that the alternate reality where she is trapped is only a trick to lure her.
About Movie:
Coraline is an American stop-motion animated dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Henry Selick, based on Neil Gaiman’s 2002 novella. Produced by Laika as its debut feature, the film features the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Ian McShane.
After Gaiman completed the novella, he invited Selick to adapt it into a film, as Gaiman admired Selick’s earlier stop-motion works like The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and James and the Giant Peach (1996). To expand the novella’s length for the screen, Selick adjusted the story, with design influences coming from Japanese illustrator Tadahiro Uesugi, particularly in the film’s color palette, which contrasts the muted real world with the vibrant Other World, similar to The Wizard of Oz. Production took place in Hillsboro, Oregon, using stop-motion animation and stereoscopic 3D technology, with each frame shot from two slightly different angles.
Coraline premiered at the Portland International Film Festival on February 5, 2009, and was released theatrically in the U.S. on February 6 by Focus Features. The film earned widespread critical acclaim, grossing $184.2 million worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing stop-motion film ever. It won multiple Annie Awards and received nominations for the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. Over time, Coraline has gained a cult following and is regarded as one of the greatest animated films of all time.
