About Movie:
Edward Scissorhands is an American gothic romantic fantasy film directed by Tim Burton. Produced by Burton and Denise Di Novi, and written by Caroline Thompson from a story developed with Burton, the film stars Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, Kathy Baker, Vincent Price, and Alan Arkin.
Filming primarily took place in Lutz, Florida, from March 26 to July 19, 1990, injecting over $4 million into the Tampa Bay economy and creating hundreds of temporary jobs. Interiors of the mansion were later filmed at Fox Studios in Century City, California.
Burton drew inspiration from his childhood in suburban Burbank, California, to create the story. The project began development at 20th Century Fox after Warner Bros. passed on it, with Caroline Thompson adapting the screenplay during pre-production of Beetlejuice.
The film’s production was fast-tracked following Burton’s success with Batman. Notably, Edward Scissorhands marked the fourth collaboration between Burton and composer Danny Elfman, and was the last film released during Vincent Price’s lifetime.
The film was both a critical and commercial hit, grossing over four times its $20 million budget. It won the BAFTA Award for Best Production Design and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and earned multiple nominations at the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Saturn Awards. Both Burton and Elfman consider Edward Scissorhands their most personal and favorite work.
