Storyline:
Dramatically constructed based on a true story: as civil war rages in Mogadishu, rival North and South Korean diplomats are left trapped. With no aid from either government, their only shot at survival may require uniting with bitter adversaries to escape.

Escape from Mogadishu (Korean: 모가디슈) is a South Korean political action thriller film starring Kim Yoon-seok, Zo In-sung, Heo Joon-ho, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim So-jin and Jung Man-sik. The film was directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and produced by Kang Hye-jung
and Kim Yong-hwa.
Based on real events, the film is set during the overthrow of Siad Barre and the efforts of the two Koreas to gain admission to the United Nations in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It details a perilous escape attempt by North and South Korean embassy workers stranded during the conflict.
The film was entirely shot in Morocco in the second half of 2019. Post-production work began in May 2020.
Escape from Mogadishu was anticipated to release in the summer of 2020 but its release was postponed due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was released theatrically on July 28, 2021, by Lotte Entertainment in IMAX format. It received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its action scenes, humorous plot, direction, and vivid acting performances. The film is available for streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video.
The film ranked number 5 at the worldwide box office in the first week of August 2021. With a production cost of ₩24 billion, it surpassed 3.5 million admissions within 56 days of release, becoming the first Korean film in 2021 to do so. By December 31, 2021, it was the highest-grossing Korean film of the year, with a gross of $29.9 million and 3.61 million admissions.
Escape from Mogadishu was selected as the South Korean entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film won six awards each at the 30th Buil Film Awards and at the 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards including the ‘Best Film’ award. At Blue Dragon Film Awards it was voted as Most Popular Film and Koo Kyo-hwan as Popular Star. As of May 6, 2022, it has won twenty-five awards overall at various award ceremonies.
