About Movie:
Frankenstein is an upcoming American science fiction horror film, written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, based on Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The film features a star-studded cast, including Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, Felix Kammerer, and Christoph Waltz.
Del Toro has long expressed a deep passion for adapting Frankenstein, envisioning a version that embraces the novel’s tragic, “Miltonian” elements. His interest in the project dates back to 2007 when he admired Frank Darabont’s earlier screenplay.
Over the years, del Toro has teased fans with the possibility of bringing his vision to life, even considering casting Benedict Cumberbatch as the monster in earlier stages. Despite many delays, del Toro’s dream project was officially revived in 2023 after Netflix, with whom del Toro has a multi-year deal, picked up the film.
Principal photography began in Toronto on February 12, 2024, with production expected to wrap by July.
The film is slated for a 2025 release on Netflix, marking one of the most highly anticipated adaptations of Shelley’s classic.
