About Movie:
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, commonly known as Ram-Leela, is a Hindi romantic tragedy film written and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who also composed the original soundtrack. The film stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, with Priyanka Chopra making a special appearance in the song “Ram Chahe Leela.” The supporting cast includes Supriya Pathak, Richa Chadda, Sharad Kelkar, Gulshan Devaiah, Barkha Bisht Sengupta, and Abhimanyu Singh.
Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Ram-Leela tells the story of two lovers from rival gangster families who fall in love but are compelled to separate due to their families’ long-standing feud. Bhansali conceived the project while working on his directorial debut Khamoshi: The Musical, but budget constraints delayed its production. The project was revived in 2012, leading to Padukone and Singh being cast in the lead roles after extensive auditions.
Filming took place primarily in Gujarat and Rajasthan, with much of it conducted on elaborate sets. The background score was composed by Monty Sharma, with lyrics by Siddharth–Garima.
Initially scheduled for release on November 15, 2013, the film faced a temporary stay by the Delhi High Court, which led to a change in its title from Ram-Leela to Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Upon release, the film received positive reviews, particularly for the performances of Padukone, Pathak, and Singh, as well as its soundtrack, although it faced some criticism for its plot and violent elements.
Ram-Leela was a commercial success, earning ₹220.58 crore (approximately US$27 million) at the box office, making it the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2013. The film garnered eight nominations at the Filmfare Awards, winning three, including Best Actress for Padukone and Best Supporting Actress for Pathak. At the International Indian Film Academy Awards, it received nine nominations, including Best Film, and won two awards.
