About Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Movie:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a fantasy adventure film directed by David Yates, based on the 2003 novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. It was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Heyday Films.
It is the sequel to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and the fifth installment in the Harry Potter film series. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, and Michael Gambon.
Principal photography began on February 7, 2006, and wrapped in November 2006. Filming took place in England and Scotland for exterior locations and at Leavesden Film Studios in Watford for interior locations, with a one-month break in June. Post-production on the film continued for several months afterward to add in visual effects.
The most expensive set was the two-hundred-foot-long hallway in the Ministry of Magic. Over thirty thousand individually placed tiles were used to create the Ministry of Magic sets. As real ceramic tiles would have been far too expensive to produce, they were instead made out of heavily-painted cardboard.
Helen McCrory was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange, but due to her pregnancy, she had to be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter. McCrory was later invited back and cast as Narcissa Malfoy, Bellatrix’s sister, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009).
Emma Watson considered not returning for the remaining movies in the franchise after this installment. However, she decided to stay, realizing it would be uncomfortable to watch them being made with someone else as Hermione. In Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022), she explained that she often felt lonely on set, as Hermione was an outsider both in her class and within her close group of friends, where she was the only girl. Watson also struggled with the instant fame and attention from fans.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released in 2D cinemas and IMAX formats in the United States on July 11, 2007, and in the United Kingdom on July 12, 2007, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics.
This movie was released ten days before the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The film was nominated for many awards, including the BAFTA Award for Best Production Design and Special Visual Effects. One of only two Harry Potter movies not to be nominated for an Academy Award in some category. The other one was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).
With a worldwide five-day opening of $333 million and a total gross of $942 million, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2007, the film was noted as a case of Hollywood accounting, as Warner Bros. claimed that it lost $167 million despite the total gross.
A sequel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in 2009.
