Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3 is an upcoming American epic Western film directed and produced by as well as starring Kevin Costner from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Baird, based on an original story he co-authored with Baird and Mark Kasdan. It is the third installment in the titular film series and a direct sequel to Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.

In June 2022, Kevin Costner announced that his film series would consist of four distinct movies, with principal photography for the first two beginning in April 2023. The plan was to release Chapter 3 about three months after the second movie. Costner wanted a consistent release schedule for each installment. By May 2023, production on the third movie had started in Utah but was paused due to the writers’ and actors’ strike. Despite this, by October, the trailer and poster for Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 were released, confirming that work on the sequels was ongoing.
In February 2024, during the post-production phase of the first two movies, Costner began establishing a new production company called Territory Film Studios in Utah. The production of the third and fourth films was set to resume later that year. By April, Costner confirmed that the scripts for all four films were complete. In May 2024, casting calls for background actors started, and production was scheduled to begin in St. George, Utah. The production had initially started in 2023 but faced delays due to the strikes. Following the completion of the previous installment, Costner began filming a montage sequence for Chapter 3.
Costner stated that principal photography for Chapter 3 officially began on May 13, 2024. The production was initially planned to start on April 25 but was postponed to May 6 to accommodate funding issues. Despite the setbacks, Costner and his team managed to keep the project on track, ensuring the continuation of the film series with a structured timeline for future releases.
