Storyline:
In German-occupied France, young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the “Basterds”, a group of Jewish-American guerrilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl’s plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.
About Movie:
Inglourious Basterds is a war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, featuring an ensemble cast including Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger, and Mélanie Laurent.
Inspired by Enzo G. Castellari’s 1978 film The Inglorious Bastards, though not a remake, the title features deliberate misspellings, which Tarantino described as his own stylistic choice. He began writing the script in 1998 but paused to work on Kill Bill. After finishing Death Proof (2007), he returned to Inglourious Basterds.
Filmed in Germany and France with a $70 million budget, the movie premiered at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2009, and was widely released in August 2009.
The film grossed over $321.5 million globally, becoming Tarantino’s highest-grossing film until Django Unchained (2012).
Christoph Waltz’s portrayal of Hans Landa received widespread acclaim, earning him the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actor Award, as well as a BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG, Critics’ Choice, and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The film garnered eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, although some critics took issue with its historical inaccuracies.
