Storyline:

Two years after the events of Joker (2019), Arthur Fleck, now residing as a patient at Arkham State Hospital, falls in love with a music therapist named Lee. As they descend into a world of musical madness fueled by their shared delusions, Arthur’s followers begin a movement to free him.

About Joker: Folie à Deux Movie:

Joker: Folie à Deux is an American musical thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote it with Scott Silver. It is slated to be a sequel to the 2019 film Joker. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the DC Comics character the Joker, and Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz also reprises her role from the first film.

The film’s working title is “Folie a Deux,” which means “Madness for Two” in French. This initially led to speculation about Harley Quinn’s appearance in the film, which was shortly thereafter confirmed.

This will be the first major DC Comics film to be released under the new “DC Elseworlds” banner. The term was firstly created in 1991 by DC Comics for the stories out of the canon, set in alternate realities.

A sequel officially entered development in June 2022. Principal photography began on December 10, 2022. Filming took place in Los Angeles, New York, and Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Filming officially wrapped on April 5, 2023. It is shot partially with IMAX-certified digital cameras.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be Joaquin Phoenix’s first sequel.

A teaser trailer for the film was released on April 10, 2024, while Warner Bros. screened a presentation at the 2024 CinemaCon, being promoted by Phillips. It features Sammy Davis Jr. and Tom Jones’ cover of the song “What the World Needs Now Is Love” (1965).

The trailer gained 167 million views in its first 24 hours, being Warner Bros.’ biggest trailer premiere at the time, having surpassed that of the first trailer for Barbie (2023).

Joker: Folie à Deux premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2024,[10] and was released in the United States on October 4. The film received negative reviews and is expected to be a box-office bomb, having grossed only $192 million worldwide on a $190–200 million budget.

The film’s release will mark the 5th anniversary of the first Joker film.
