Storyline:
Lafran Pane, founder of the Islamic Students Association (HMI), started with little Lafran, who was intelligent but lacked discipline. Lafran grew up to be a rebel and moved to various schools, even becoming a street boxer. His brothers, poets Sanusi Pane and Armijn Pane, encouraged Lafran to channel his energy in the form of work. During the Japanese occupation, Lafran was detained for defending cattle breeders. He was later released after his father made amends by handing over the Sibual-buali bus to Japanese soldiers. While studying in Jogjakarta, Lafran was anxious to see educated Muslims who were too involved in secular thinking and forgot about worship. He also founded HMI as a forum for fighting within an Islamic, Indonesian and non-political framework. Supported by his girlfriend, Dewi, he allows HMI to be led by students who are not from the Islamic College, before asking Syafaat Muntadja from UGM to lead HMI.
