Storyline:
Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.—Apple TV+
About Masters of the Air TV Series:
Masters of the Air is an American action war drama miniseries, based on the 2007 book of the same name by Donald L. Miller. Created by John Shiban and John Orloff, the series stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Barry Keoghan, Nikolai Kinski, Stephen Campbell Moore, Sawyer Spielberg, and Isabel May.
The series serves as a companion to Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010). The series is the first Apple TV+ series to go into production under the technology firm’s in-house production company, Apple Studios. The working title for the series was ‘Whirlwind’. It was originally going to be made at HBO.
This is Barry Keoghan’s first WW2 project since Dunkirk (2017). This is also Bel Powley’s first series for Apple TV+ since The Morning Show (2019).
Principal photography began in England in 2021 but was delayed on several occasions due to strict government measures related to COVID-19. With a budget of over $250 million, it is one of the most expensive TV Series ever produced.
Masters of the Air premiered on Apple TV+ on January 26, 2024. The series received positive reception.
