About Hostage: Missing Celebrity Movie:

Hostage: Missing Celebrity (Korean: 인질) is a South Korean action crime thriller film, written and directed by debutant director Pil Kam-sung. It is a Korean remake of the 2015 Chinese film Saving Mr. Wu.

Produced by Secret Warrior and Filmmaker R&K, the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Kim Jae-beom, Lee Yoo-mi, Ryu Kyung-soo, Lee Ho-jung, and Baek Joo-hee.

The film was shot in the idle area of the military base in Gandong-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Donghae Police Station, and around Namsan-myeon and Sabuk-myeon in Chuncheon.

The film was ready for release in 2020 but its release was postponed due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hostage: Missing Celebrity was theatrically released on August 18, 2021, on 1289 screens. As of December 22, 2021, with a production cost of ₩8 billion, the film is the third highest-grossing Korean film of 2021, grossing $13.07 million with 1.63 million admissions.

The film was officially invited to the US Fantastic Fest, held from September 23 to 30, 2021, in Austin, Texas. It was also invited to the 41st Hawaii International Film Festival in the ‘Spotlight on Korea’ section, held from November 4 to 28, 2021. Additionally, it was invited to the 16th Paris Korean Film Festival, held from October 26 to November 2, 2021, where it was showcased in the ‘Evenement’ section. In April 2022, the film was invited to the 24th edition of the Far East Film Festival in Udine, held from April 22 to 30, 2022.
