Storyline:

The film is based on Mrinal Sen’s journey from his struggling early days as an idealistic filmmaker during India’s independence to his pivotal role in the Indian New Wave cinema movement in 1950s Calcutta, working alongside Satyajit Ray.

Padatik is a Bengali biographical drama film written, directed, and edited by Srijit Mukherji. The film stars Chanchal Chowdhury as Mrinal Sen, alongside Monami Ghosh, Jeetu Kamal, and Korak Samanta.

The film focuses on Mrinal Sen’s active lifetime and his contribution to the Bengali Cinema. Initially, Srijit Mukherji planned to make a biopic on Mrinal Sen as a web series, but he later changed his mind and decided to create a film instead.

The shooting of Padatik began on January 15, 2023, in Kolkata. The trailer was released on August 4, 2024.

Padatik was released in theaters on August 15, 2024, coinciding with India’s Independence Day.
