About Scream 7 Movie
Scream 7 is a sequel to Scream VI (2023) and the seventh installment in the Scream film series.
After directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who helmed Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), stepped away from the franchise in August 2023 due to scheduling conflicts with their film Abigail (2024). Christopher Landon was hired in their place.
That same month, pre-production was suspended due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
On November 21, 2023, it was reported that Melissa Barrera, who starred as Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, had been fired from the seventh film due to her comments about the Gaza war.
On November 22, 2023, Deadline Hollywood reported that Jenna Ortega would not reprise the role of Tara Carpenter due to scheduling conflicts. Ortega later refuted this, stating in an April 2025 interview that she left due to the changes in the creative team and cast, stating, “The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart. If Scream VII wasn’t going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn’t seem like the right move for me in my career at the time”.
In December 2023, Christopher Landon confirmed that he had officially stepped away from Scream 7 weeks earlier. Although he wasn’t involved in the studio’s decisions regarding the film, he unfortunately became a target of online backlash and harassment from some fans of Melissa Barrera following her departure from the project.
In March 2024, Neve Campbell announced on her Instagram account that she would reprise her role as Sidney. She also verified that Kevin Williamson, who wrote and produced earlier Scream films, would be directing from a screenplay by Guy Busick, based on a narrative by Busick and James Vanderbilt.
Principal photography began under the working title Scar Tissue in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 7, 2025, and was expected to continue until March 12. As per Campbell, filming was initially set to start in September 2024 but was postponed until December 2024 because of scheduling conflicts.
