Storyline:
The love story of King Dushyantha and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and nymph Menaka. Due to a sage’s curse, Dushyant forgets all about Shakuntala, until destiny brings them together again.

About Shaakuntalam Movie:
Shaakuntalam is a Telugu historical romantic drama film written and directed by Gunasekhar. It is produced by Neelima Guna under Gunaa Teamworks and distributed by Sri Venkateswara Creations.
In November 2020, director Gunasekher announced the film based on Kalidasa’s 4th-century play Shakuntala which tells the story of the legendary princess Shakuntala and king Dushyanta.
In December 2020, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu was confirmed to be cast as the lead actress to portray Shakuntala.
The project was announced in October 2020 by Gunasekhar. Principal photography of Shaakuntalam was kickstarted on 15 March 2021 at Annapurna Studios.
The filming was finished in the last week of August 2021 at Annapurna Studios.
The film was made on a budget of ₹65 crore. It is shot extensively around Hyderabad, including Ramoji Film City, Ananthagiri Hills, and Gandipet Lake.
Shaakuntalam was scheduled to be released theatrically on November 4, 2022, but was later postponed due to the film being chosen to be converted into 3D format.
Shaakuntalam was theatrically released on April 14, 2023, by AA Films. Along with Telugu, the film was also released in dubbed versions of Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
Shaakuntalam received negative reviews from critics and was a box office failure.
The UK release was cut, the distributor chose to make cuts to scenes of strong violence in order to obtain a 12A classification. An uncut 15 classification was available.
The film premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 11, 2023.
