About Movie:
Terminator Genisys is an American cyberpunk action film and the fifth installment in the Terminator franchise. Serving as a reboot, it reimagines the original film’s storyline, disregarding the sequels and the TV series. Directed by Alan Taylor and written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.
The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his iconic role as the Terminator. The cast also includes Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matt Smith, Courtney B. Vance, Michael Gladis, Sandrine Holt, and Lee Byung-hun.
After Terminator Salvation sequels were canceled due to The Halcyon Company’s bankruptcy, Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures acquired the franchise rights in May 2011 at $70 million. Her brother David Ellison’s Skydance Productions joined the project, and they consulted with Terminator creator James Cameron, drawing inspiration from The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).
Principal photography took place mainly in New Orleans, with additional filming in San Francisco. The film shot under the code name Vista, a possible reference to the Terminator’s “hasta la vista” line in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The first unit shot the film over a total of 90 days, in high definition. Six companies contributed to the film’s visual effects, while Legacy Effects handled prosthetics and animatronics.
Terminator Genisys premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on June 28, 2015, and was released in the U.S. on July 1. Despite Arnold Schwarzenegger’s praised return, the film received negative reviews for its plot and acting. However, it grossed $440.6 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film in the series and Schwarzenegger’s career, behind Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The film’s lower-than-expected performance led to the cancellation of two planned sequels and a spin-off TV series.
A video game, Terminator Genisys: Future War, was released on May 18, 2017. The franchise continued with Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
