About Movie:
Terminator Salvation is an American military science fiction action film, marking the fourth installment in the Terminator franchise and serving as both a sequel to Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) and a soft reboot. Directed by McG and written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris.
It stands out as the only Terminator film that does not feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, though his likeness is briefly used through digital effects. The film stars Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, with supporting roles from Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common, Michael Ironside, and Helena Bonham Carter.
In 1999, two years after C2 Pictures acquired the rights to the Terminator franchise, the storylines for two films were outlined. Tedi Sarafian was brought on to write Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, for which he received shared story credit, while David C. Wilson was assigned to draft Terminator 4. The original plan was for T3 to focus on the initial conflict between Skynet and humans, while T4 would follow, concentrating on the war glimpsed in the earlier films. Warner Bros. referred to Terminator Salvation under the codename “Project Angel.”
With a reported budget of $200 million, Terminator Salvation became the most expensive film in the franchise, narrowly surpassing Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), which had an estimated budget of $185–$196 million.
Filming commenced on May 5, 2008, in New Mexico, including scenes shot at Kirtland Air Force Base, following the U.S. Air Force’s cooperation in providing guidance and aircraft for the film. Initially, production was set to begin on March 15 in Budapest or Australia, but a 25 percent tax rebate and favorable financial conditions led the filmmakers to opt for New Mexico due to its cost-effectiveness.
Released on May 21, 2009, by Warner Bros. Pictures in the U.S. and internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing under Columbia Pictures, Terminator Salvation grossed over $371.4 million worldwide. Despite its commercial success, the film received mixed-to-negative reviews. While it was intended to kick off a second Terminator trilogy, those plans were scrapped when the Halcyon Company filed for bankruptcy following the film’s release.
In 2012, Annapurna Pictures purchased the franchise rights, leading to the release of Terminator Genisys (2015), which saw Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the role.
