The Family Star OTT Release: When and Where to Watch Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur Romantic Action Drama

Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur’s latest film, The Family Star, premiered on Amazon Prime Video much earlier than expected. The Telugu romantic drama, which hit theaters on April 5, 2024, was available for streaming on the platform starting April 26, 2024.

The film, written and directed by Parasuram, follows the story of Govardhan (Vijay Deverakonda), an ordinary man who goes to great lengths to protect his extended family. When a new tenant, Indu (Mrunal Thakur), enters his life, an unexpected love story begins to blossom, forcing the couple to navigate various challenges and relationships.

The early OTT release of The Family Star is likely due to the film’s underwhelming performance at the box office. Despite a reported budget of ₹50 crores, the movie has only managed to gross around ₹19.78 crores globally so far, resulting in significant losses for the producers.

“The Family Star is an exceptional film meant for the entire family, with outstanding performances by Vijay and Mrunal, and masterful direction by Parasuram,” said producer Dil Raju. “The film has received immense love from audiences upon release in cinemas, and now premiering it on Prime Video will take the film to audiences in over 240 countries and territories, who we hope will love it just as much or more.”

Despite the film’s commercial underperformance, the makers are hopeful that its early digital release on Amazon Prime Video will allow it to reach a wider audience and find more success.
