Thangalaan
The film was officially announced in December 2021 under the tentative title Chiyaan 61, as it is Vikram’s 61st film as a lead actor, and the official title ‘Thangalaan’ was announced in October 2022. It is a Tamil historical action-adventure drama film directed by Pa. Ranjith and starring Vikram and Malavika Mohanan in lead roles alongside Pasupathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone and Harikrishnan Anbudurai. It is based on the true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka.
Principal photography for the film began in October 2022 and ended in early July 2023. It was shot sporadically in several legs, with filming locations including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai, and Karnataka. Thangalaan was initially scheduled for release on January 26, 2024, but the film’s release date was postponed due to extensive VFX work. The film is now scheduled to be released in April 2024 in theatres.
Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One – Yuddha Kaandam
Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One – Yuddha Kaandam is an upcoming Indian Tamil spy action thriller film starring Vikram, Ritu Varma, R. Parthiban, Radhika Sarathkumar, Simran and Vinayakan. It was directed and produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon, who also co-wrote it with Deepak Venkateshan.
The film was initially announced with Suriya in 2013, but several months after the announcement, Menon shelved the project citing creative differences with the actor. He revived the project in 2015 and finalised Vikram as the lead actor. Production began in 2017 and was shot in seven countries, but languished in production hell for years owing to Menon’s financial constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic, before concluding in February 2023. Due to lingering financial and legal issues, the film remains unreleased. After multiple delays, the film is expected to be released in 2024.

Mahavir Karna is an upcoming Tamil epic action-adventure film written and directed by R.S. Vimal. The film stars Vikram and Suresh Gopi in important roles. It is based on the Indian epic Mahabharata with the story centered upon Karna. The film’s music is composed by Gopi Sundar, the cinematography is handled by KK Senthil Kumar and Nirav Shah, and the editing is done by Shameer Muhammed.
