Avatar 4
Avatar 4 is an upcoming American epic science fiction action adventure fantasy film co-written, co-edited, co-produced, and directed by James Cameron. It will be the sequel to the upcoming 2025 film Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the fourth installment in the Avatar franchise. It will star Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña, among others from the original cast, reprising their roles. Cameron stated that Avatar: The Tulkun Rider is considered a possible title for the film.
Cameron, expressing interest in sequels to Avatar since 2006, confirmed the fourth and fifth films in late 2010. Producer Jon Landau mentioned in February 2019 that a third of Avatar 4 had already been filmed. Avatar 4 is scheduled for release on December 21, 2029. A sequel, Avatar 5, is in development and is expected to be released on December 19, 2031.
Avatar 5
A fifth and final film Avatar 5 has been announced and is scheduled for December 19, 2031. James Cameron mentioned Avatar: The Quest for Eywa as a potential title for the film. Avatar 5 is slated for release 21 years after the original Avatar (2009). Cameron expressed uncertainty about directing the fifth film in an interview with ABC News Australia.
According to producer Jon Landau, part of Avatar 5 will take place on Earth and “open people’s eyes, open Neytiri’s eyes, to what exists on Earth.” He also also said “Earth is not just represented by the RDA. Just like you’re defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad. Not all Na’vi are good. And that’s the case here on Earth. And we want to expose Neytiri to that.”
Cameron revealed that he also has plans for a potential sixth and seventh film and would make them if there was demand. However, he also noted that he would be 89 years old by the time Avatar 6 and Avatar 7 could be released, and he is “not going to be able to make Avatar movies indefinitely, the amount of energy required”.
