Sunita Dangol (Nepali: सुनिता डंगोल) is a Nepalese Newa heritage and indigenous-script activist, model, and politician. She was also the winner of the Miss Newa pageantry in 2011.
She is currently serving as the deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the capital city of Nepal. She assumed office on 30 May 2022, alongside mayor Balen Shah.

Sunita Dangol Early Life and Education:
Sunita Dangol was born on 18 May 1993, to father Satu Dangol and mother Sangita Dangol in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 2011, she won the Miss Newa Pageantry. She graduated with a BSc. Biotechnology (SANN Int’l College, PU) and complete a master degree from Tribhuvan University (TU) in MA Social Work.
Before being elected as the deputy mayor of Kathmandu, she was active as a Newa heritage conservationist and indigenous–script (Ranjana) activist.
Sunita Dangol Career:
Sunita Dangol started her career as a model, Newa heritage, and indigenous-script activist. She was also the winner of the Miss Newa pageantry in 2011.
With Ananda Kumar Maharjan, Dangol co-founded a calligraphers collective called “Callijatra” to promote various Nepalese scripts. Callijatra has so far done over twenty-seven workshops on Ranjana script and is looking to expand its scope by involving more calligraphers and designers. Dangol is the coordinator of the Callijatra project.
Later on, she became well-known for her TEDx talk, and she is also a Tokyo presenter at Atypical 19.
Sunita Dangol Political Career:
Sunita Dangol initially declared her candidacy for the position of Mayor as an independent candidate for the 2022 Kathmandu municipal election. However, she joined the CPN (UML) and competed for the position of deputy mayor with Keshav Sthapit in the mayor’s post. She was elected with 68,612 votes while Rameshwar Shrestha of the coalition’s Unified Socialists polled 23,806 votes.
