About Amaran Movie:

Amaran is an upcoming Tamil action war film written and directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan portraying the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan, alongside Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman, Gaurav Venkatesh, and Shreekumar.

In late December 2021, it was reported that actor Sivakarthikeyan had signed his next film, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, who previously directed Rangoon (2017) and assisted director AR Murugadoss for Thuppakki (2012) and Kaththi (2014), and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, headed by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran. Sivakarthikeyan and Periyasamy had collaborated before both joined the cinema industry for private Tamil channels and many projects and shows.

The company made a public announcement on 15 January 2022, confirming the project, tentatively titled #SK21. While Vakhil Khan served as the co-producer, the project was jointly produced by Haasan’s house and Sony Pictures Films India, headed by Vivek Krishnani, and the film’s official title, Amaran, was revealed on 16 February 2024.

A muhurat puja was held at the headquarters of Raaj Kamal Films International in Chennai on 5 May with the presence of the film’s cast and crew. The same day, G. V. Prakash Kumar was announced as the music composer. Periyasamy crewed production designer Rajeevan, cinematographer CH Sai, editor R. Kalaivanan, and action director Stefan Rrichter, for the technical crew. Initial reports speculated that the film would be based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan. The same day as the official title was revealed, Sivakarthikeyan confirmed he would be playing the Major.

Principal photography began with the first schedule on 5 May 2023 in Kashmir. However, the shooting was halted a few days later, due to an ongoing event there. Filming then resumed on 22 May. The schedule concluded by 1 September, with a working day of 75 days. The second schedule began in Chennai on 21 October. On 9 November, the filming continued in Pondicherry. Shooting resumed in Puducherry by late November. By then, 80–percent of filming was reportedly completed.

Amaran will be theatrically released at the end of 2024. The film is to be released in the Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages. The streaming rights were acquired by Netflix.
