Storyline:
Shortly after comic artist, Adam responds to Internet trolls, he begins experiencing sleep paralysis — while an empty rocking chair moves in the corner of his apartment. As he chronicles increasingly malevolent occurrences in a series of tweets, Adam begins to believe he is being haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Encouraged by his boss to continue the “Dear David” thread, Adam starts to lose his grip on what is online…and what is real.

It is based on the viral Twitter thread by BuzzFeed comic artist Adam Ellis.
In an interview, Adam Ellis said his story was based on actual events and that he had “never been interested in convincing anyone that ghosts are real – I just wanted to tell my story.”
In November 2018, New Line Cinema acquired the rights to the story. In November 2021, BuzzFeed and Lionsgate acquired the rights to the story from New Line Cinema and hired John McPhail to direct.
Production took place in Toronto, Canada, and wrapped in December 2021.
Dear David was released on October 13, 2023, by Lionsgate.
