Storyline:

A historical sports drama inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal. The film traces the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent nation.

Gold is a Hindi historical sports drama film written and directed by Reema Kagti and starring Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Sunny Kaushal and Nikita Dutta.

The film is based on the journey of India’s national hockey team to the 1948 Summer Olympics and follows Tapan Das, the man who won India its first gold medal in the same event.

Gold marked Reema Kagti’s comeback film after six years. Her previous directorial venture was Talaash in 2012.

In October 2016 the film was officially announced by Akshay Kumar. Principal photography of the film began on July 1, 2017, in Bradford, England. After finishing the England schedule, the production team of the film moved to Punjab in September 2017 for its second schedule in which shooting was done in Amritsar and Patiala. Filming was completed in Mumbai in December 2017.

The teaser for the film was launched on February 5, 2018. The first poster of the movie was released by Akshay Kumar on his Twitter handle on April 28, 2018. The trailer of the film was released on May 9, 2018.

Gold was theatrically released on August 15, 2018, during India’s Independence Day. The film grossed ₹158 crore (US$19 million) against a budget of ₹61 crore (US$7.3 million) at the box office. Gold became the first Bollywood film to be released in Saudi Arabia. The film was also released in Chinese theatres on December 13, 2019.

Gold grossed ₹25.25 crore on its opening day, making it one of the year’s biggest opening day releases. It is the first Akshay Kumar’s film to do over 20 crore Nett in India on the Opening Day. The film had a gross domestic collection of ₹141.04 crore.
