When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady, Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. About M3GAN Movie:

M3GAN (“Megan”) is an American science fiction horror film directed by Gerard Johnstone. It was written by Akela Cooper from a story by Cooper and James Wan (who also produced with Jason Blum). Allison Williams and Violet McGraw star, Amie Donald physically portrays M3GAN, and Jenna Davis voices the character. M3GAN stands for “Model 3 Generative Android”.

Principal photography for the film began in June 2021 taking place in Los Angeles, California, and Auckland, New Zealand.

One of the first Hollywood films within the last 45 years to be released on the first Friday in January and obtain a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score. Traditionally, films released on the first Friday in January, especially horror films, had received generally negative reviews from critics.

The film underwent reshoots in post-production in order to secure a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association after the original cut was deemed too violent.

Actors dressed as M3gan showed up to the Los Angeles Rams/Los Angeles Chargers NFL game on Sunday, January 1st, 2023 to help promote the film. They even did a dance midfield during halftime.

The producers knew that the movie would appeal to teenagers which is one of the reasons why it ended up being PG-13.

A technician uses a pen to track M3GAN’s eye movement. The way the scene is presented trough M3GAN’s POV is very similar to the montage scene where Officer Murphy is reconstruct in RoboCop (1987).

The robot fight in the climax is a tribute to the 1986 science fiction and horror film: Aliens.

M3GAN premiered in Los Angeles on December 7, 2022, and Universal Pictures theatrically released it in the United States on January 6, 2023. The film premiered on the streaming service Peacock on February 24, 2023. The DVD and Blu-ray was released on March 21, 2023, with all formats receiving an unrated version. It received largely positive reviews from critics, with praise for its campy blend of horror and humor, satirical elements, and performances.

A sequel, titled M3GAN 2.0, is scheduled to be released on January 17, 2025; Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will reprise their roles, and Akela Cooper will return to write the script. Gerard Johnstone is also in talks to return as director.

The film grossed over $181 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million and received praise from critics for its campy blend of horror and humor.

At the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, M3GAN was nominated for Best Villain (M3GAN). The film was nominated in three categories at the 2023 Golden Trailer Awards: “Family” (Inside Job) for Best Horror, and “Bringing Life To M3GAN” (The Fabulous Group) and “Meet M3GAN” (Paradise Creative) for Best Digital – Horror / Thriller. It won the latter category for “Getting Hacked” (The Fabulous Group). M3GAN won Best Horror at the 6th Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Awards.

A sequel, titled M3GAN 2.0 is scheduled to be released on May 16, 2025, with Williams and McGraw reprising their roles and Cooper returning to write the script.
