Storyline:

When Bikini Bottom is suddenly scooped out of the ocean, Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob journey to Sandy’s home state of Texas, where they meet Sandy’s family and must save Bikini Bottom from the hands of an evil CEO.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is an upcoming animated adventure comedy film directed by Liza Johnson from a story by Kaz and a script written by Kaz and Tom Stern. This will be the fourth hybrid animated SpongeBob movie.

This marks the first SpongeBob SquarePants feature-length film directed by a woman, and it is also the first in the series to feature a female main villain.

The film stars the voices of Carolyn Lawrence, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Bill Fagerbakke, Mr. Lawrence, Rodger Bumpass, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Matty Cardarople, and Wanda Sykes.

This will be the first SpongeBob movie not to have a theatrical release but instead will be shown on a different streaming service which is Netflix and not Paramount Plus. This will also be the second Nickelodeon Movie to be shown on Netflix after The Loud House Movie (2021).

In May 2021, a spin-off Sandy Cheeks feature film was announced to be in development from Nickelodeon for streaming television and described as a hybrid feature that will put the animated title character into a live-action setting.

On August 12, 2021, the title of the movie was revealed as Saving Bikini Bottom. On February 17, 2023, it was revealed that the film would be released on Netflix in 2023, now with the added subtitle The Sandy Cheeks Movie. On April 25, 2023, a first look at the movie was released, as well as a changed release to 2024.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will be released on Netflix on August 2, 2024. The film’s release year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) as well as the 25th anniversary of the SpongeBob SquarePants (1999) TV show.
