Where to Watch Sound of Freedom (Stream)

  • Sound of Freedom was inspired by the work of Tim Ballard, the founder of Operation Underground Railroad, or O.U.R., an anti-trafficking non-profit. Work on the script began in 2015.
  • Ballard had personally requested that Jim Caviezel portray him because he had been impressed with Caviezel’s performance as Edmond Dantes in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).
  • Caviezel has stated that he considers Sound of Freedom the second most important film he has ever appeared in, ranking it behind his starring role as Jesus Christ in The Passion of the Christ (2004).
  • The film was executive produced by Tony Robbins, who also partly financed the film’s distribution; John Paul DeJoria; John Couch; Patrick Slim and Andrew McCubbins.
  • The film’s score is composed by Javier Navarrete.
  • Principal photography began in the summer of 2018. The majority of the film was shot in Cartagena, Colombia. Additional scenes were shot in Calexico, California.
  • The film was released on July 4, 2023, by Angel Studios. Prior to its release, the film sold $10 million in ticket pre-sales at 2,626 theaters. According to /Film, the film received little coverage in the mainstream media leading up to its release.
  • It was a sleeper hit, becoming one of the most successful independent films in history. It has grossed $210 million against a $14.5 million budget. It received mixed reviews from critics, while audience reception has been highly positive.
  • Mel Gibson, Dana White, Elon Musk, Ben Shapiro, Jewel, Odell Beckham Jr., Tim Tebow and the Family Research Council have all endorsed the film. Donald Trump hosted a special screening of the film at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster on the night of Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
