About 28 Years Later Movie:
28 Years Later is an upcoming horror film featuring Cillian Murphy, who reprises his role as Jim from 28 Days Later. The cast also includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, and Erin Kellyman.
Directed by Danny Boyle and co-written with Alex Garland, the film is produced by Columbia Pictures in collaboration with BFI, DNA Films, and Decibel Films. Anthony Dod Mantle handles the cinematography.
The film serves as a sequel to both 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007).
In June 2007, Fox Atomic studio confirmed the possibility of a third film, contingent on the financial success of the film’s home video release. In July of the same year, Danny Boyle mentioned that the story for a third installment had been planned.
In June 2019, Danny Boyle confirmed that he and Alex Garland had been working on this third installment. In March 2020, Imogen Poots expressed interest in reprising her role from the second installment 28 Weeks Later (2007), followed by Cillian Murphy in May 2021.
In January 2024, it was announced that a third film, titled 28 Years Later, was officially in development, with plans for it to be the first in a new trilogy of sequels. In February of the same year, Cillian Murphy discussed his potential involvement with the project and was revealed to be an executive producer later that month. In April 2024, Cillian Murphy was confirmed to reprise his role as Jim.
Principal photography began on May 7, 2024, in Northumberland.
28 Years Later is scheduled to be released in the United States by Sony Pictures Releasing on June 20, 2025.
Sequel
In April 2024, Nia DaCosta entered negotiations to direct the second film in the new trilogy, with Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernie Bellew as producers. In May, DaCosta was confirmed as director. The film will be shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later.
